Biography

Wadup.

Adam’s ambles is proof that when forced to think up headlines, the lazy mind thinks: Alliteration! It’s also the collected musings, articles and travel journals of Adam Karlin, a journalist and writer based out of where he is. When he’s trying to be impressive, Adam mentions that he writes for Lonely Planet guidebooks and has filed articles from India, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Vietnam, Laos, Burma, Morocco and Argentina for The Christian Science Monitor, Chicago Tribune, USA Today, Houston Chronicle, Arizona Daily Star, Contra Costa Times, Salt Lake Tribune and other publications.

Other impressive sounding facts: After graduating from the University of Washington, Seattle, Adam worked as a sub-editor at The Vientiane Times in Laos, The Nation in Bangkok and as a Laos correspondent for Farang magazine. When he’s being a little more honest Adam adds that “sub-editing” often meant arguing with Lao reporters over the finer qualities of the laab gai at Kopchaidieu beer garden.

Adam has also worked as a statehouse reporter for The Spokane Spokesman Review, a crime and local politics reporter for Gazette Newspapers in Maryland (in Calvert and Prince George’s Counties) and even had a brief stint at The Key West Citizen, where he realized living in a Jimmy Buffet song isn’t all its cracked up to be.

Adam has an MA in International Studies and Diplomacy from the School of Oriental and African Studies in London, a BA in Comparative History of Ideas from the University of Washington, a few tattoos, and this email address if you’d like to drop him a line: adamkarlin@gmail.com.
